WHAT TYPE OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING DO CHIROPRACTORS HAVE TO COMPLETE?
To receive your doctorate of chiropractic, the educational requirements are as difficult and labor intensive as many other health care professions. In order to apply to an accredited chiropractic college, most applicants have already nearly completed four years of pre-medical undergraduate education, with a concentration in the following courses.
- Inorganic and organic chemistry
- Related lab work
Once accepted into a chiropractic college, studies become even more rigorous and can take up to 4 or five years to complete. Doctors of chiropractic are required to study the following areas:
- Skilled manipulation
- Adjusting techniques
- Human anatomy
- clinical diagnosis
- Laboratory procedures
- Diagnostic imaging
As you may know, chiropractic care includes highly skillful spinal and other joint manipulations. As a result, a significant period of studies are concentrated on learning these adjustment techniques. By the time a student exits chiropractic college, he or she would have spent approximately 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical training.
Once a student finishes his or her studies and passed the mandatory chiropractic state exam, he or she is now considered a doctor of chiropractic and an expert in diagnosing and treating issues related to the musculoskeletal system, (muscles, ligaments and joints of the spine and extremities) and in addition, the nerves that supply them.

Yes! Children can experience many benefits from chiropractic care. Children are very active in sports and in everyday life. As a result, they may experience injuries that may cause symptoms of back or neck pain, sourness, stiffness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is gentle and a drug free way to address your child’s aches and pains.
DO INSURANCE PLANS COVER CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
Yes. most insurance plans cover chiropractic care. These include major medical plans, medicare plans, auto accident insurance, among many others. Feel free to call your local chiropractor to see if they accept your specific insurance policy.
HOW IS A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT PERFORMED?
The chiropractic adjustment is a procedure that requires highly developed skills that chiropractors spent many years in college developing. Your chiropractor will use his or her hands to apply pressure to the joints of the body, the spine being the most common, all with the goal of realigning the joint, reducing inflammation, and restoring normal joint function. The chiropractic adjustment, or manipulation, is adapted for each patients specific needs. Many patients report postive results immediately after receiving an adjustment.
WHAT IS THE “POPPING” SOUND WHEN RECEIVING AN ADJUSTMENT?
When a joint of the body is adjusted, it may release a gas bubble, which generates the “popping” sound associated with the adjustment. The noise you hear is generated by the change in pressure within the joint.
